Part 3 - the Kenai
Peninsula south of Anchorage
We said goodbye to all our new friends and flew back to
Anchorage and spent a night in a hotel to catch up on some washing and stay in a
quiet room that didn’t have a huge anchor running through it at all hours of the
night.
It was a 4 hour drive south to Homer and our quirky
accommodation in the Wolf’s Den.
It’s mostly underground with a view straight out to Kachemak Bay and our very
own volcano and snow-capped mountains outside.
We’ve really needed the 3 days here to slow down and catch
our breath after the last couple of weeks.
Homer is a small fishing town, and for anyone who’s ever watched
Deadliest Catch on TV, the “Time Bandit” boat is anchored here at the moment.
Alaska belonged to the Russians until the late 1880’s, but
they still have a small community which we discovered today during a lovely
drive in the back drops of Homer.

Tomorrow we drive to Seward for 3 nights.
Auntie Mary (my Mum’s sister) met an ex US Navy sea dog many years ago,
and they moved to Moose Pass together, which is just up the road from Seward.
We’re hoping to find someone who knew them, and track down their house.
Moose Pass only has 3 streets, so we should be able to find it.
