Lorella Springs
This is just an amazing place. The road in is pretty bad,
not the worst we’ve been on by far, but certainly it’s up there with them. At
the homestead there’s a natural hot spring for swimming, it’s about 25⁰C, which
means it’s not freezing when you 1st get in. We’re going from 34⁰ to
25⁰ for a swim. Very civilised. Also it’s very nice in the late afternoon.
We drove 15kms to their main swimming hole, the last 3kms
was the toughest 4WD road I've driven. We were in the lowest gear and crawling
alone at slower than walking pace for the last 1,800m, I was certainly using all
of the 8 cameras on the cruiser to make sure all the rocks with teeth were clear
of the car. We were able to park right at the water hole and the water was
crystal clear and cool.
They have a Happy Hour at the bar, which means a can of VB
drops from the standard $8.00 to $7.00. However it gives the tourists a chance
to talk to the other tourists and also the staff as they are normally all there
for this Happy Hour.
We are being reminded that we are “out of season” and that
the season is from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day (12th May to 1st
September this year) so there’s not a lot of water around. The advantage with
this time is that there are not a lot of other tourists around, so we have
plenty of space to camp without it being crowded.
We fear the heat is just around the corner, but we still
haven’t struck it, the days at 35⁰ are great and night time it still getting
down to 15⁰ and no humidity. We know this won't last, but we are enjoying it
while it’s available.
We’re off to Towns River now, which is in the Limmen
National Park. Hopefully good fishing but we don’t have any rods!
