Banana Well and Broome

After Middle Lagoon we had a night to fill in before our campsite was ready in Broome. So we stopped at Banana Well which is a fairly new camping spot at the end of Beagle Bay.

It was a nice enough place, but there is just nothing to do there unless you fish and the fishing is a drive away from the camping area.

The down side was, that it’s surrounded by mangroves and around these parts mangroves = midgies. We got eaten, as always. Jayne copped it more than me this time as I was taking Vitamin B1 and Jayne wasn’t taking them as she didn’t believe these worked. Well guess who’s now taking double doses of vitamin B1? Jayne!

Since then we’ve had a relaxing week in Broome, which we really needed. Our car had to go back to the Motor Mechanics 4 times to get these air-bags working correctly. If they don’t get them working today I’ll be telling them to take them out and give me a refund.

The temperature yesterday was an amazing 44⁰C in the shade at our van. The saviour was we only had 8% humidity yesterday. Today is going to be a different story. At 5.30am its already 26⁰ but the humidity is 96%. The max today is forecast at 33⁰ but this will feel hotter due to the high humidity. Well we were looking for warmer weather, so we can't complain too much.

While here in Broome we enjoyed a Paella and Shangri, which was nice, and I taught Jayne how not to lose at noughts and crosses. They had this really nice pool there! Quite amazing.

it was 44°C a couple of days ago, the saving grace was that it was only 8% humidity. Yesterday was cooler at 33° but with 97% humidity. How can it have 97% humidity and not a drop of rain? It was certainly hot at 44° but the humidity is harder to handle.

Our kids fly to Broome today (Saturday 5th). They leave Sydney at 10.25am and on a non-stop flight arrive in Broome at 1.35pm, plus the 2 hour time difference, that's a 5 hour flight. From the cold and damp of Sydney to the heat & humidity of Broome, and we're still in the same country. Quite amazing. We're really looking forward to seeing them all again, and do we have some things in mind to show them. It's going to be quite the week for them.

Jayne recommended me to a French backpacker for a haircut the other day. He's working here & sleeping on the beach or at illegal camps around Broome. He told me he got fined $300 the other night for illegal camping. In his French accent he described "Broome is an expensive place to camp, but it's even more expensive not to camp!". We both thought that was gold, he should be playing to camp, especially as he's working!

He keep saying as he was cutting my hair "oops sorry" and then had to cut it closer. It's that short now I won't have to have another haircut until 2014!
