Cape Range National Park - Exmouth
We've spent 7 nights at this amazing location.
We've been snorkelling along the Ningaloo Reef in several places, and the best was without question Oyster Shacks. The fish and coral here were amazing and right at the shore, just a few kicks once you navigate the rocks into the water. Turquoise Bay is also brilliant and much more family friendly with a lovely white sandy beach.
The other day while we were wading in the water talking to a guy about his terrible Lotus caravan, a shark swam almost right up to us. Soon after a pod of dolphins swam by. They got to within 4 metres of us, but by this time quite a crowd of onlookers had gathered, and before we knew it some had donned flippers and goggles and started to swim to them. Well you can imagine what happened next, they all turned around and swum away. But there were about 10 of them in total. We felt quite special. You could even hear them talking if you ducked you head in the water.
By the way, never buy a Lotus caravan. What a dud they are.
Our 600L of water lasted nicely, which was helped along by us refilling the bladder when we went to Exmouth for supplies, an extra 150L just because we could! So we had plenty, which was needed as we treated ourselves to 3 showers a day to wash off the sweat from humidity and salt water.
Just one of the amazing sunsets right in front of our van
We had some delicious Cocktail Frankfurts made in WA, they were quite big, so not really "Little Boys" more like "Teenagers"! Sorry - no photo!
I've mentioned the technology in our van. Theseare the remote controls we have, from L to R, air conditioner, TV, Satellite TV, WD TV (best bit of gear we have), radio remotes - one for inside and one for outside. As you can imagine all these remotes drive Jayne crazy! J
We replaced the tyre on the van that died on the Nullarbor with the same size tyre that are on the car It's actually the size we should have got on the BushTracker from the start, but communications let us down and we ended up with one size smaller. No big deal, as once we destroy these terrible Bridgestone tyres we'll replace them with bigger ones, probably BF Goodrich. I think this will be done while we are on the Gibb River Road, so not too long to wait. Problem was, the spare wheel covers from BushTracker don't fit on the larger tyres, so we had 4 choices.
- Don't use any covers, not good for the life of the tyre sitting out in our harsh Australian sun.
- Get a plain black cover (cheapest option)
- Get a new BushTracker one made to fit the bigger tyre
- Get a Wunda one printed. These have the same cost as the BushTracker ones. With the big plus it's advertising for Wunda, not Bushtracker! Plus, Wunda pays for it, plus it's tax deductable! Way to go! J
The Wunda one won this contest. Looks good eh?
Exmouth has lots of Emu walking around town. We were paid a visit in the caravan park by two of them
Tomorrow (Thursday) we fly back to Sydney, for 3 weeks, so this will be the last entry until our return. When we come back we'll be at Ningaloo Station, which has less Internet service than here. How you get less than zero I don't know, but you do there. So our next update won't be for ages, but I'll try to get something up by 6th May.
