2nd week in Broome and start of Dampier Peninsula
Our second week in Broome was highlighted by the arrival of Julie our friend from New York. We had 2 nights with her in Broome before she headed off on a 2 week APT tour of the Gibb River Road. She's back with us for 1 week after that so we need to drive back to Broome to collect her, the mail, Nespresso pods and some more food before retracing our steps to come back here.
The old Broome outdoor picture theatre
We enjoyed a great lunch at the "Thousand Stars Bar and Cafe" at the Hovercraft launching dock overlooking Roebuck Bay
Off course we took Julie down to Cable Beach for sunset and a few drinks which included some Harvey Wallbangers.
As Julie is a photographer she just loved the sunset and the camels.
The Sturt Desert Peas were out in bloom in Broome
Julie got down close and personal with them for just the perfect shot
What's Jayne pointing at? The Osprey nest up in the lighthouse naturally!
Middle Lagoon
After those 2 days with Julie, we headed up to Middle Lagoon, one of our favourite camping locations in all Australia and the World! We were really put off as the spot we normally camp at "The Lookout" has been booked out for 4 months by some bloody grey nomads. So we opted for 4 nights up on the "Ridge". We were then to move to "Linos" for another 8 nights here. But we loved the Ridge so much, we decided to stay here for the whole time. This did involve us having to move the van to another site as someone had booked it, but when they turned up in tents with no sand pegs, they opted to go off the Ridge, which meant we moved twice in one day. Off our site in the morning, then back on it the afternoon. We confused everyone, even ourselves. But what a location!
We watched the State Of Origin football match and the sunset from our seats. A few neighbours joined us, but as they were Queensland supporters they had the back row and were told they had to be quiet!
NSW lost :(
A short walk around the rocks from our campsite
The boat may even get launched one day soon, but we're really busy right now
Next visit we'll stay on The Ridge, as its much better than The Lookout. Although it can get a tad windy at times. We've become experts at taking down and putting up our awning and annex side, even at some awful hour of the night/morning.
We drove up to One Arm Point, and enjoyed lunch at Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm. They have a new infinity pool and restaurant with quite a view.
The sunsets are amazing from our camping spot
Check out this beauty
We have 2 lovely older couples for neighbours who invited us for drinks. They're here for months and are now employed looking after the camp area. The womenfolk keep the cabins in order - washing sheets and other domestic duties and the menfolk dig holes, create new roads within the place and even made a new dump point and tip. It's an Aboriginal community, so not much work gets done by the locals. Lots of hanging around by the young guys and not much else. They're being paid, but we don't think it would be too much. All work stops when the fish are biting and they go out in their boats, but they're making a huge difference to the campgrounds. They're very kind and protective of us, and when someone tried to encroach on our camping spot yesterday, Shirl was quick to pay them a visit and call out to us to make sure we'd be able to get the car out when we left.
Jayne's Birthday
We celebrated Jayne's birthday while we were camped at Middle Lagoon, so to do something special for her we drove to Whalesong Cafe for lunch. It's actually not far from Middle Lagoon although it seems to be in the middle of nowhere. We enjoyed some fine French Champagne and really nice pizzas.
This is our view while we enjoyed our lunch
