Barn Hill Station to Broome

Barn Hill Station is an old favourite of ours. Our first visit here was with our Jayco Caravan in 2004 when it was relatively undeveloped. We've always stopped here on our way to or from Broome.

The camping in the unpowered section on the cliffs overlooking the beach is amazing - all this right from the caravan.

One afternoon we could see fish jumping out there while we were seated having sunset drinks. They must have been some big fish!

Eco Beach Resort is just 9 kms north of Barn Hill, but the drive in and out of each property requires many gate openings and closings in the soft red dirt, and is around 30 kms.  Lucky for me I've been the driver in and out most of the time, except for the trip back after lunch.

At Barn Hill 2 older guys turned up on trikes.  They set up a full camp and had an amazing amount of gear.

One trike is towing a tiny Avan

After 3 nights at Barn Hill it was off to Broome.

Ahh, Broome, we never tire of you

We headed down the beach on our 2nd night.  Because of the full moon it's been an 8 metre tide change, so the water was miles away.  It's great to be back watching the beautiful sunsets from here.  Jayne is disappointed she hasn't seen her favourite seagull "Stumpy" yet.  He has not feet at all and he's visited us every time over our last 3 visits.  Maybe he's hiding a bit further down the beach, so hopefully we'll see him soon.

We rode our bikes out to the Port for a delicious lunch at The Wharf Restaurant and to watch the live cattle being transported out to the boat on road trains. There was a large vessel in that carried 3,500 head of cattle to Indonesia. Quite a job loading it. At least these cattle get a nice cruise and then off to small farms all over Indonesia to get personally fattened by a family, only about one beast per household. So its not as bad a life compared to the dry, dusty home they have here before they leave.

Our farmers are finally getting top $ for their cattle now. So they are happy for a change.
