Cape Arid to
Bridgetown - Sydney – Bridgetown – Walpole
When we went to bed on our last night in
Cape Arid it had
started to rain, just drizzling really. This soon changed and before we were
asleep it was bucketing down. This lasted all night and was the heaviest rain we
have experienced in this van. When we woke at 5.00am it was still bucketing down
and I was lying in bed worried about the 15kms of dusty dirt road we drove in to
get there.
So it was a matter of jumping out of bed and as quick as
possible get the van onto the car and get out of there before the road turned to
absolute mush and they closed the road. We had a plane to catch and an operation
booked the next day. So we couldn’t be delayed.
We were like drowned rats when we finished packing up the
van, jumped into the car and drove the 15kms ok, it was very slippery getting
out of our camping spot and I only heard Jayne gasp and tell me to slow down
once on the way out as we slid a bit across the road, but not too much. I wasn’t
going to slow down, we wouldn’t have been able to get rolling again if I
stopped.
We stopped at the next small town, where they had a nice
football field with an empty tar parking area, where we showered and had
breakfast, before driving to
Stirling Range National
Park where we spent the night before going onto
Bridgetown where we would
stay the night, leave the van in the Caravan Park, drive 300kms to Perth the
next morning to get our 1.30pm flight to Sydney. We arrived into Sydney at
9.30ish Thursday night and my operation was 7am Friday morning. Alexis arrived
back at 7.30am Friday morning as well, but Jayne and I weren’t at the airport to
meet her, Justin did that for us.
My operation when very well. Unfortunately the bone had
already healed but it was rotated and at the wrong angle, this means they had to
re-break it and get all the “new” bone removed so they could pin it. They put a
“ladder” pin in with many screws holding the bones together.
The pain was gone by Saturday lunch time and we enjoyed a
big night at the Cunningham’s with all our kids and friends. It was a great
night, not too late, thankfully.
We flew back to Perth on Wednesday after these few hectic
days, picked up our car and drove to Bridgetown, stayed the night there and
drove to
Walpole. The caravan park here is just like camping in the forest, but
with all amenities and right on the beach, which makes it very nice and unique.
With a 3 hour time difference between Perth and Sydney
we’re not really sure what time it is, but we are tired now, whatever time it
is!
