Back in Broome

We left home at 7.40am and it was 11˚C. After a 5 hour flight we arrived in Broome deplaned and was rewarded with 30˚C, absolute blue skies, no humidity and no wind.

Picked up the van and car and headed to the van park. By sunset we had ridden our bikes down to Cable Beach to watch the sunset. It’s much busier than 2 weeks ago when we left, we’re now in peak season and Broome is buzzing with tourists.

We were in bed before 9pm, jet-lag and the effects of 2 hectic weeks in Sydney were the causes of this.

We’ve both come back with a cold, thanks Sydney for that! Imagine having a cold when its 30C, it’s so unusual.

This week we’ve just been cruising, nothing special and thawing out.

We’ll go to Quondong Point for a day trip, it’s where we’re thinking of heading after Broome, when we were there last it was a fantastic free camping spot right on the ocean. A lot of people we’ve spoken too are headed there and we’re a bit fearful that it’ll be overcrowded.

Quondong Point is also near James Price Point which is where they want to build the new natural gas plant, this is big news here. It’ll mean a huge boom for Broome. But it will defiantly change the beautiful coastline north of Broome.

Our trip was to be around 15,000kms in total. However the Touareg has clocked up 14,400kms and our van has travelled 12,800kms. So either we’ve done a lot more side trips than we reckoned on or Google Maps is really inaccurate on distances.

We’ve enjoyed the climate in Broome up to now, but it’s turned cold here as well. Maximum yesterday was 23C and today is supposed to be warming up to 25C! But don’t worry, by Monday it’ll be back to 28C, so we’re not going to freeze for long.

On Tuesday 26th we head up towards Cape Leveque, which is a beautiful part of the West Australian Coast. The road into there is infamous for being so rough. We'll be staying at a few Aboriginal Communities so our next updates will have lots of fun things, well I hope so.

After that, we head for the Gibb River Road, which is really rough & isolated, but more like a highway with the amount of cars using it these days. We've heard horror stories just in the last few days about it's condition, but then we have heard it's being graded now. So how knows?
