Winton to Borroloola (Gulf of Carpentaria)
Scenery from Winton is interesting and it certainly changes very frequently.
Corella Dam, near Cloncurry is a nice free camp, it's full of people who stay there many weeks.
There's a glimpse of the dam from our site
Mt Isa
We stopped off in Mt Isa for a couple of nights so we could do some grocery shopping, pick up some deliveries from Australia Post and so Alan could have a haircut. It might be the last place for the next few weeks, and he was starting to look like a long-haired git. Buying online and having things shipped to far flung places around Australia is so easy. It doesn't matter if it's dog food, chilli oil, Crocs, wine, Nespresso pods, caravan doors or hinges. Just turn up at the counter, and they hand the goodies over with a smile.
Camooweal Queensland, near NT border
This is by far the best place we've camped since we left Sydney and it's 100% free. What a bonus. We managed three nights there without a problem.
Camooweal offers a pub with meals, free drinking water and a dump point. What more does a camper need? Not much although their shop didn't have parmesan cheese which was crucial to one of our dinners.
We got the bikes off the car, tucked Bailey up in the van and rode 5kms on a very rocky road to the pub for lunch. It was a nice excursion.
Our campsite at Sunset
Complete with Black Swans
All our "Ducks in a row"
Just before Borroloola - our speciality, camping just anywhere!
Camped in the middle of the road!
Not really, its a side road.
From Borroloola we head into Seven Emu Station for a couple of nights and then into Lorella Springs for about 10 nights. There's no phone service until we return to Borroloola and then we head west. At least Borroloola supermarket has parmesan cheese! Whew, what a relief.
